This week I received a call for papers from Pádraic Moran (National University of Ireland, Galway) on behalf of the Network for the Study of Glossing about a conference to be held at Galway on June 21-22, 2018 around the theme Glossing cultural change: Comparative perspectives on manuscript annotation, c. 600–1200 CE. It will be the second conference of the network after the first conference in December 2016 at Frankfurt am Main. You can read a report in French about this meeting at the blog Les gloses – Laboratoire des savoirs du haut Moyen Âge.
Rijcklof Hofman (Titus Brandsma Instituut, Nijmegen) who worked with Pádraic Moran on the edition in print and online of the glossed Priscian points to the role of glosses for the study of medieval Roman and canon law, too, and kindly send a second alert to this conference. The call for papers notes the widespread use of glosses in many languages, and you can equally point to the range of disciplines using glosses in some form. With such recommandations I do not hesitate to bring this call for papers to your attention. The deadline for proposals is February 23, 2018, mail: padraic.moran@nuigalway.ie.
